Hi WizzyWig,

The plan we're on with our ISP does not allow us to make money from the site in the form of advertising income, subscription fees, etc etc (donations are the only exception).
So if we were to run advertising, we would have to run 'a lot of it' as we'd be moved to a commercial plan and it costs a lot more.

Also, historically donations has proven more beneficial to OFPEC and the community (you guys don't have to put up with advertising), due to the generosity of this community and the fact that we only ever ask when we really need it.

Hope this helps clarify why we don't consider advertising as an option. :)

We use HuBBa, he he. ;)

He hosts OFPEC (and a few other sites) on his own home connection, on a server residing in his house.

o ok well maybe ask him to set up the google adds as the adds are not popups and its a great way for people that can donate cash to give to the server adds can be placed any were on the site even forum and the best thing is that google reads the site and only offers you info taht your users will need to use

We are not allowed to have any commercial ads (and unfortunately Google ads are among those) on the website. This includes having them "hidden" through frames or just popups. Our ISP does monitor this from time to time and if they do see commercial ads on OFPEC, our costs would go up by roughly 5 times the monthly cost.

Now.. it's not ME hosting that disallows commercial ads, it's my ISP who does it. I unfortunately do not have any say in the matter.

Actually, I'd rather have ads than have to pay to access most websites. Obviously it takes money to run a website, so I'd rather see it be someone else's money, not mine.

I don't think most websites could keep themselves running solely on donations like OFPEC.

It wouldn't work for most websites but ofpec is for the community and we want a nice fast website don't we??? ;)

I stand by my previous statement.
