play a missiom?
« on: 07 Aug 2004, 14:04:22 »
ok i created a mission (like a simple one for myself lol cause im bored) and i was wondering if someone can tell me how i play it? I saved it under the SP and then when click SP and try playing it open but then doesn't load the mission? It takes me back to the menu.

I put West and East units in the mission (lol a lot) thats it, but now it won't load the mission. The island is BHD-Leave no man behind if that matters lol :P

When you create a mission you can play it in the mission editor.    Click on the Preview button.    Does it work?

If it does, delete the original copy from your missions folder and re-export the mission.   Try again.   Does it work now?

Make sure your mission has a player unit - that is a common mistake.

Player unit is the unit that you play as. Double click on the unit u want to play as and than in the column sumthing like "Playable" select Player. That unit shud now have a red circle round it. The preview symbol shud than have come up.

Right, well at least we can solve the problem.   Two problems actually.

Firstly, go and read my tutorial macguba's guide to mission editing[/url] which will help make things clearer.

Secondly, the player unit is the unit which is controlled by you rather than the computer.   Double click on the unit you want to play:  click on control (on the left) and now select player.   You have already done this once because the first unit you placed on the map was a player unit.

Thirdly, look around your map.   You will see pale blue lines connecting some of the units.     Connected units are members of one group.    The maximum number of units in a group is 12.    Somewhere you have a group with more than 12 units.   Click on Groups at the top of the screen and drag and drop the thin blue line from one of the excess units either onto an empty space on the map, or another unit in a different group.     It sounds much more complicated that it is, just play around.     (If you have tanks or vehicles the game counts each crew member as one, so four tanks is the usual maximum for a group.)

Now you should have a Preview bottom on the right hand side.  :)

Oh and

Your first post (I'm not sure if you fixed it or not..)
You have a group of units, but you have more than 12 in one..
Thats the biggest ammout of guys a group can contain
Oh, a BMP counts for 3 people (Driver, gunner, commander)
Gd luck

whenever i put more then 12 units on each side it says "does not support more then 12 units"

You mean squad, right?
You can't have more than 64 units per a side

well lets take a count on how you can call them if your the commander:
F2: 2
F3: 3
F4: 4
" ":  "
F12: 12 <--  :o here's were it stops

For short, OFP only supports 12 units per a group. Thats just how they made it. But, I think a MOD overided that and made more ( ???). It's called the Chain of Command, you could try that if you want more units per a group.

Max soldiers in a group = 12
Max groups in a side = 63
=> max units in a side = 756

Chain of Command and other scripts/mods allow you to get round these resrictions to some extent.

AFAIK, CoC do not get around any of these limitations. The only thing CoC does is make you command up to a batallion (if you want some serious lag that is) . Though I haven't been able to explore CoC much due to the lack of missions. :(
