Changing unit side in the middle of the game
« on: 13 Sep 2004, 17:11:14 »
ok, i am creating a mission were you play as a terrorist. I use two addons, the terrorist addon which is added to the side of resistance and a police addon which is added to the side of civilian so;
they are basicly the same sides.

you start the mission in your UAZG along with 3 fellow terrorists (this is designed to be a coop mission) and you stay friendly to the police until you get out of your car and reveal yourself. then when they see you they start shooting at you. anyway to turn them into enemies of civils (the police) i used
Condition : !(terrorist1 in jeep1) or !(terrorist2 in jeep1) or !(terrorist3 in .......... and soon

On Activation : terrorist1 addscore -10000 (or something like that, it's working

It works fine when i'm testing the mission alone without the ai but when i have the ai and i get out of the uazg, not only the police shoot at us but so does my fellow terrorists!

I was wondering if there was any way i could do what i want to do so my own ai won't shoot me?

or will i have to put "YOU MUST DISABLE AI OR THEY WILL TURN ON YOU" in the mission explanation?

It seems to me that you are not changing sides at all.      You stay on side A the whole time.     At the start side B do not shoot at you:  after a certain point  side B do shoot at you.   Is that correct?

If so, all you need are setCaptive commands.

Addrating is no good for this sort of thing.    It just makes you an enemy of everybody.

yes i know it makes everyone shoot at you, but that is what i want at the end of the day (except my squadmates).

but the thing is i thought setcaptive only worked when you didn't have any guns. am i right? or will they not shoot at you if you're in a car?

They will not shoot at you even if you are armed, when setcaptive is true.

No, you are wrong.   ;D   If you're setCaptive true they will not shoot at you.   Period.

ok, all well and great, it's just that the police  addon is on the civil side and the terrorist addon is on the resistance side. i opened mission.sqm with notepad and changed all my guys to EAST rather than GUER and then got rid of the addsscore -10000 and made it so when they get out of the car they are setcaptive false. and res is now allied to west and enemies with east but i have 2 new problems:

1) as the police is on the civil side, after i shoot about 3 police my teammates still turn on me and they are also not shooting at the police because they are classed as civies.

2) after i changed their sides to east in mission.sqm they became east soldiers in the mission (with bis east soldier model)?

please help, or i'll just have to use the BIS west crew as police which will look stupid.

Don't change stuff in the mission.sqm.   Yes it does work, but if you edit the unit later you have to go back and change it.   Also it's a lot of work.

Use the  .... no I really can't bring myself to explain the change side trick yet again, I do it almost every day AND I'M COMPLETELY FUCKING SICK TO DEATH OF EXPLAINING IT.

As often as you help peeps out, I would have thought that you have a template library of response! ;D Save your digits for a hard question and I will help this player out!

@ryankaplan

You will have to "group" the police units to an east unit to make them hostile to your terrorists. First, add any east unit and move the "Probality of Presence" slider bar to 0 (all the way to the left). Then press F2 to use the group funtion and then use your mouse to click and drag a line from your police units to the east unit. You now have civ units that will act like east units and attack your terrorists when the "setcaptive" is set to false. You may keep your terrorists on the resistance side as long as they are set to "hostile to east".
