lamppost light halfway up
« on: 05 Sep 2004, 16:27:15 »
I've used General Barron's Editor Addon to place my lamppost and this switchlight "auto" to make it turn on at night.   All well and good.

However, the light appears half way up the lamppost.   I know this has come up before but a forum search only produced the problem, not the solution.

Anybody know what to do?

Many thanks.

Try;
myLamp inFlame true

Gives it a more glowing effect but it adds to the atmosphere.

I don't think there is a solution Macguba.......not yet anyway.

I actually think the Resistance streetlamps were intended for inclusion in WRP files.

Placing them in WRP's works fine.....placing them in the editor does not.

Lamps using the 'fire' simulation work ok
Lamps using the 'streelamp' simulation don't

Oh bollocks, does this mean I have to invent a workaround?   Oh well, plus ca change.  *rolls up sleeves*

inflame true doesn't seem to work on these lamps.   I want to use "auto" anyway because otherwise I'll need a trigger to detect the time of day.

Edit:  OFP crashes when you move a lit lamp that has already been seen in Preview.    This might take a while.

You could use a little script to check the time of day.

Something like:

? ((daytime < 5.25) || (daytime >= 18.5)) && (_lights ==0) : goto "on"
? ((daytime >= 5.25) && (daytime < 18.5)) && (_lights ==1) : goto "off"

SwitchLit lamps are extremely sensitive, leading more often than not to spontaneous crashes with no real sense behind it, so after pulling my hair for a week I simply changed to inFlammable lamps and got on with my life.

Are there inflammable lamps in the game?   Addons are no use to me but all I'm trying to do is have a scene in a cutscene lit up if its night.     (the cutscene could be called during night or day.)    The source of light can be outside the shot so a total fake would be fine.

You're right Planck of course, I can just check the daytime at the start of the script.

The lampposts don't actually light up the scene anyway.    Or maybe that's just because they are all so close to the ground.    The only worthwhile thing I've discovered so far is that the headlight lights up too.

Thanks everybody for all these suggestions.   Much appreciated.   It's for a funeral scene in custom onplayerkilled.

There are some {Red,Blue,Green,Yellow,White,..} Glow effects (check Empty/Objects/) too.
Dont know what addon, if any, they come with, might be Tonal, editor update, streetlamps, or somesuch. They too add a great deal of atmosphere when used soberly.

All the streetlight in OFP appear to use the 'streetlamp' simulation now.

The only way I can think of to get one using the 'fire' simulation is to make a config.cpp defining it and then PBO it and place it in the Addons folder.

I think BAS had some light sources based on 'fire' simulation in one of their addons.

EDIT:  Those Glow effect things are the BAS ones I think

Mud_Spike kindly sent me the streetlamp.pbo which has dne the trick nicely.    If such august brains as have answered above haven't cracked it, then I'll live with a little addon.

Many thanks everybody.   :D
