force veteran mode
« on: 05 Sep 2004, 19:35:40 »
im not sure if this can be done but....
can you force veteran mode or change the difficulty in mission?

i ask because im using switchcamera to look down a gunsight except i get the labels of the people the gun holder is looking at. e.g.
   __
l        l
l  __  l
Soldier
50 m

which looks kinda rubbish in a cutscene, is there another way around this problem without changing the difficulty to veteran?

cheers

You can certainly detect the mode in which the player is playing by using the variable cadetMode.    You can then plan hideous consequences depending on the result, including ending the mission.

I don't know of any way of changing it during the mission.   (Not that that proves anything.)   It's not the sort of thing mission editing can do for you:  it's changing the game, not editing/creating a mission.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

You could create an image looking like an in-game gun sight and then use it as a resource (RscTitles) to overlay the current camera view (you'll have to do some camera scripting, but thats just fun, right?  right?! anyone?)

Unfortunately I don't think veteran mode makes any difference in this situation.

I think if you change the camera to another unit, OFP classes the unit as a vehicle (or something ???) and you end up seeing the boxes and labels anyway.

That's what I found when switching cameras to gunner, as I always play on vet mode and still get the boxes...
