setFace refusing to work???

Hi All!

OK, this sounds like a totally noob question, and I'm probably just doing something obviously stoopid, but I can't get the setFace command to work.

I'm trying to set up a photoshoot scene featuring a couple of my friends and catch screenshots with dxdll - all working fine so far... in game online shots work fine with my friends all wearing their faces, so the face files are OK. So I set up a scene in the editor, got copies of the face files from all my buddies and tried to assign them to my carefully placed "actors".

The photoshoot "mission" has it's own folder in "Users/Me/" and I put the .jpgs in there and then tried to add them with...

this setFace "facename.jpg"    -    in the units init field, but it doesn't work!

I've tried obvious things like...

this setFace "/facename.jpg",

and folders within the photoshootmission folder like...

this setFace "/faces/facename.jpg"

(with and without the leading forwardslash)

but nothing seems to work...

OK I'm being a dumb**s and should probably be shot at the end of this post (like the real armstrong) for missing the obvious, but it's pi***ng me off, so once you've all finished laughing, any advice would be welcome...

and yes, I've tried setting up identities in a description.ext file too, but that doesn't seem to work either.

\I'm no expert, but it sounds like you're doing everything right. The jpeg is in the MISSION folder, not a sub-folder, right? Here's what smart people tell me:

C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\Users\yourname\missions\missionname

and use this in the init field of the guy

this setface "facename.jpg"

Supposedly the faces work like the custom flags

I've got my own face set as "face.jpg" and selected as: this setface "custom"

I'm getting occasional weird bugs (some sounds won't play in trigger) that rebooting sometimes fixes.

What size are your jpg's.........dimension-wise?

The face .jpgs are the standard 256x256 size (I've attached one as a sample) and seem to work fine when named "face.jpg", placed in the users folder and assigned using the "custom face" option from the main menu - that's cool for individual users, and as I said before, in an online game, everybody is running around with their face on... the problem seems to occur when I try to create a mission and use the faces on AI units, despite the fact that they're in the

codemasters/operation flashpoint/users/me/nameofmission folder

and therefore on the correct path to be assigned via...

this setFace "facename.jpg"

in the init field of the AI unit I'm trying to assign the face to..

I don't think it's a problem with the actual face file, since I've tried downloading a few from various OFP sites - they all work if I assign them to myself as a player with the custom face option, but none of them work when I try to assign them to AI units via the init field (or by defining an identity)...

I actually think it's some sort f wierd OFP glitch or bug or something wrong with my installation...

PS... setting flag textures works just fine, and I can even assign the face files as flag textures, and that works too...

Tried setting flag textures as faces - that didn't work though....

Hi Bushlurker,

Are you by any chance using custom units? I know that some community made custom units do not allow for the face texture to be changed (FDF units as an eg).
This could be the problem that you are having.

Hi Ex Para...

Yup I thought of that... I was originally using the BAS Delta Ranger addon which allows you to use custom sleeve patches and provides a few faces (got the sleeve patches working first time), but I've tried the setFace command with just about every unit I can think of, from the standard Russian, Civilian and West units provided with Resistance 1.96 through to about half a dozen different custom addon unit types - in all cases the setFace command works fine if I'm using built-in faces....

this setFace "face25"     for example,

the problem only seems to occur when I try to assign a .jpg to the face - ANY .jpg...

so none of the community faces available work either...

they all work when assigned to the current player via the player-editing option on the main menu screen, but none of them seem to be assignable to AI units within the editor...

Have you tried giving it the path to the jpg.....

setFace "\Users\Me\Mymission\myface.jpg"

or even just giving it the file name without extension.

I don't know for sure, I'm just giving you straws to grasp at.   ::)

Thanks to all who offered help on this one...

I cracked the problem simply by putting all the faces I wanted to use into a faces.pbo addon and it works great!

Much praise also to the author of "unPBO" and "makePBO" - totally a breeze to use and available here in the editing section...

SOLVED!  ;)
