Kegety special FX
« on: 07 Aug 2004, 07:20:12 »
Hey

Soz, I'm not very good with computers, I read the README & it said to extract the archive to the Op Flash Folder, I did.

But the d3d8.dll crashes the game, I dunno where to put it so I delete it but the whole thing doesn't work . . . any ideas why ? I'm thinking I'm just not putting things in the right place :S

Place the directory and the d8 DLL in the ofp directory, open FlashpointPreferances and try Auto-Detect, see if that works.
I am actually flying into a star... this is incredible!

The d3d8.dll goes into the OFP root as does the dxdll folder.

Inside the dxdll folder is the configuration tool, use this to configure the options.

If the game just crashes to desktop, try disabling postprocessing.

But as Epeli has said, it may just be that your graphics card doesn't support this.

If none of it works, all you have to do to remove it is to delete the d3d8.dll and the dxdll folder.

Maybe the 3d card? FarCry for example doesn't reflect the water if you have 3d card below ATI8500 (I've tried, worked on 9800)... maybe the same goes to ofp ???

reflective water is a dx9 effect and if you don't have a card which doesn't support it (ati radeon 9600 and over does, dunno about nvidia) then it won't reflect.

Hey

I get what ya mean, but I'm no computer 'person'. I just wanna know, you said that you need a card that supports Direct X 9 . . . am I right ?

I have Direct X 9 & I think it's working fine, but . . . I dunno, is that relevent that I have it ? (Just wanna feed curiosity.)

Unfortunately Geforce 2 does not support the full use of DXDLL.

I'm in the same boat until I can upgrade my equipment.

While the thread is on DXDLL probs..
When I run ofp with it, and alt-tab out.. It closes OFP, every time.. No error message, nothing.. Just a very quick, clean close?
I've no ideaa why!

Any ideas?
I got a Gefore FX 5600, and all the stuff works fine..

I have Geforce4 MX 440, 128 MB. Have DX9. Black water also, without reflections.

Uldics.........

Your graphice card does not support pixelshaders and therefore you will not be able to use Dxdll properly.
