Which way did he go ?
« on: 23 Sep 2002, 23:54:38 »
A great idea occured to me just a bit ago.... ( I have all my best OFP ideas at school ;D )
I don't want to give too much away, but basically I was wondering if  knowsabout has anything to do with vehicles/aircraft showing up on your map screen .....
because I know that if a plane flies overhead in the immediate area you can see it pass on your map screen and watch it's flight path... even if nobody in your group has seen it.... same with a vehicle.. you can watch it drive down the road on your map screen for a bit...     I'm thinking that maybe being able to hear it has something to do with this...

What I want to do is stop the vehicle from showing up on the map screen at all... so you can't even get a general direction if you don't see it with your own two eyes....
So will making a loop where the player doesn't "Knowabout" the vehicle ever prevent this from happening....  also conversely would setting a loop just the opposite where the player knows about the vehicle at all times make it always make the icon show up in the map screen?

TIA

Whoa, you can make vehicles appear on the map screen?   This I have to see, how do you make it happen?   Is it something to with these "Difficulty" settings you find in the Options menu?

I'll stop asking stupid questions and go and try it....
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Yes it is with theese Difficult settings. If you're playing in Veteran mode you can't see nobody on the map.

You see them on the map, but only at one location and time.  If you play on cadet they will show at real time on the map moving around.  in veteran the unit will be on the map with a time next to it.  This is when you saw the unit and at what time.

Knowsabout at a level of 5 will definately make a unit show on the map.  At this level you know everything about the unit.
