In description.ext, you are able to configure identities of units in a mission. When you do this to the player, and give the player a proper name, (ie: Zachary Williams), radio messages sent by the player appear like this:

8 (Zachary Williams): WAITING

However, if you set the identity for another unit in the field, let's say the leader of the player's group, and give this leader a proper name also, messages from this person will still be sent like this:

1: 8, ENGAGE BMP

How do I enable the names of units that aren't the player to show up in the game, like this:

1 (Lawrence Davidson): 8, ENGAGE BMP
8 (Zachary Williams): ROGER

Shadow99, IMHO six hours is a bit quick for a bump .... you're shoving somebody else down the page don't forget.   Many questions don't get answered for 24 hours or more.    ;)

Don't you use the setidentity command?

Such as put in the initilization field 'aP setidentity "Colonel Sanders"'? ???

Slept on it... Still nothing. With the setIdentity command (I suppose you're referring to setting the unit's name in description.ext?) only works with the player...

I guess there is no way... nevermind...

The SetIdentity command works with all units (and yes it treferes to stuff in the description.ext).
However the SetIdentity usually does not influence the Radio (at least not to my knowledge).
The Identity (Namers) only show up when you hit the Map and take a look at the Group Listing.

There is a way to give custom names for global Radiomessages (theres a Tut by Toadlife there)
But that covers only two possible names (i.e. overwriting the Text for Papa Bear and for Firefly Base).
But I think BAS Island comes with more names, you could use.

But the above only applies to "(Alpha Black 1): HELP!"

setIdentity gives a player his/her name in the radio chatter, just like Shadow99 described in the firts post...
But, the AI names can not be in any way made to appear in the radio chatter...
Sorry...

Who the hell cares about their names anyway... in 9.985 times out of 9.986 they all get killed when the fighting starts... ::) :P

Not if they're invincible...

They'd be main chars in my game. I guess just having their voice and face is enough...

Thanks for the help. I looked up that tute also, Fishion... quite a while ago actually. Apparently there is a way of changing PAPA_BEAR and such, but I'm not sure if I could get it to work with units, rather than HQs. I'll give it a try one day anyway.
