Getting into addon makin
« on: 26 Jul 2004, 05:28:16 »
Hey all,
I wanted to get going on a two person project. We're making a weapon or weapons. (not advertising, I'm already in the group with LOOSEKANNON)

Now I've grabbed every damn tut on addon stuff I can find. Now I'm not doin any P3D or modeling, I'm doing the config and the texturing.

Are there any other parts to a weapon addon? I'm not sure... :-\

Well I have a bunch of tools and I was wondering if you could direct me to better ones or if these are sufficent?

-texview
-depbo
-pbo tool (does depbo and stuffpbo jobs)
-textureswap
-notepad(yay old realaible)
-paint shop pro 7
And I heard that I needed Unpack-SQM? Do I need it? Where can I find it?

Thanks in advance ;)

Well GRK, I think you have most of the tools you need.

However, I use UnPBO 1.5 by Amalfi, also called PBO Decryptor.
And I use StuffPBO to stuff them again.

You might also consider Binarize for binarizing your addon when it is finished.

btw......I don't think you will need UnpackSqm unless you plan on using the textureswap utility

Yea I have pbo 1.5 decrytor, I should grab stuffpbo, I dunno if the "newer" version from OFPEC works well or not. I'll stick with old reliables.

By the way, I need UnpackSQM cause its involved in the tut that uses texswap. And its the only texturing tut out there I'm pretty sure. I searched for texture and got the tut by someone called Will or EBWill, or someone... :P

binarize? I looked at something like that, what does that do?

Sorry for being noobish but addon making is unknown territory for me. :-\ :P :)

thanks

I don't think there is a newer version of StuffPBO, at least I have never seen one.  StuffPBO has been around for a long time and has never let me down yet.

Binarize is a utility that converts the MLOD model created in Oxygen into an ODOL model.

ODOL models are optimised versions and are therefore smaller in size than the MLOD version.

Whoever is doing the model would be best to use it.......you only really need to binarize for final release........or........you could just leave the model as MLOD.

Do not use UnpackSQM, it will corrupt your file.

Original OFP models are compressed.  PBO Decrtyptor de-compresses the whole PBO, including the models. If you use DE-pbo, it doesn't uncompres the MODEL, and it gets screwed up....

This tute about texturing is nice:

It ain't for OFP, but it teaches you the drawin nicely ;)

Also you need Oxygen to make background mapping for models (see here)
