Not trying to bash anyone but this was a concept tank done between Germany and US primarily to produce a unified NATO tank.
It didn't even get off the prototype stage, let alone in service.
It was just to costly for that time-hydropneumatic undercarriage which the French complain today about maintaining it on their Leclerc's, was just one of it's impressive features(for the time)
The reason it looks more like an M-60 is that this was way back-'60's I think-chobham armor was a still in the future.
Later Americans upgraded their M-60's and the Germans did leo1.
