New sound mod, finally! nothing big
« on: 14 May 2004, 09:05:09 »
I finally got my sound mod posted and can be downloaded here:

http://www.lulu.com/content/52377

Its my first, i figured, try to make weapon sounds close to real as possible using the poor mans way, changing the wss file.I have one more coming out. Sam's Sound Mod v2 is more of a city or hilly type of reverberation enviourment sound. My v1 will be more natural sounding, like when you watch the news and the news crew is in the middle of a fire fight. Not too reverby.Changed are OFP's standard weapon and explosion sounds, all though i might want to change one again. But this is my first so give it a try yall. I found that OFP's sounds are just to dry and plain.Plus , like some of the game sounds out there are way to processed sounding and some I think were borrowed from other games, although there aint nothing wrong, or too wrong with that.I listened to alot of fire fights off of news media and tried to recreate the same sound as close as possible.I dont know anything about the CONFIG Bin file so I just did it the simple way.If i did know, Id have a ball.

In v2,I wanted to make a reverb sound close to that when discharging a weapon in a city where there are alot of buildings close.Tried to eliminate alot of bass from the weapons and such cuase really, when you fire a weapon with no hearing protection it is quite a loud pop or crack. Not very recommened though. Please give fdbk. thanks yall.

Oh yeah, this is Lulu's, it was the only place or web site i ccould find to upload so you'll have to register in order to upload anything, but its free, very good site.   Let me know if the dl is too big, i can take out the addons or just pack the sound wss files so you might be able to replace the standard OFP's with mine, what ever works.

I did a quick test.

Pretty good, I like all the explosions.
Scary whizz sounds, some are too long imho
I like the M16, AK (a bit more attack maybe) , but I think the machineguns sound too dry

Have to test more, but overall a gj!

Ahh goot goot. Thanks bro, I need all the constructive crit i can get. Hmm, so the ricorchets are long?Ok.

Well, with the machine guns, there was only so much I could do to them without going into the config.bin file.ANd adding reverb to them would make them sporadic sounding, like not very good.Well i am making one more. Thanks dude.

I 've been using your soundmod for 3 weeks now and in imo the AK's are good, but the M16 could be better ( especially in burst mode).
But i still love the explosions!

Yeah, i agree. In my next one that Im making, theres some changes, not big or too really noticably different. Its hard sometimes to really replicate the sounds cause everday the way you hear things change.Especially when its electricly made. The next one is just going to be regular reverb sounds. Not alot is going to be changed.Thanks.

he, chammy

I always play OFP with headphones (bad neighbours) and I've noticed there's was some reverb on the breathing and walking sounds too.
Can you change or reduce it, I can hear the breathing with reverb FX miles away :-)

Hey Blanco.
Yeah, I think i can do it, or change it so that its different.I didnt change the breathing sounds or any of the enviourmental sounds and human sounds.Just all the sounds that BIS put into their weapons and explosions. But yeah, i think I can do that. What I think might be going on, if your sound card supports EFX like halls and theatre reverbs, it might be on and you need to disable it.Or if you have EAX or hardware excelleration on your audio device in OFP> Sound options, you'll have to turn it off cause it does increase the volume in the game as well as the enviourmental sounds.

I am getting ready to post the other sounds.I am just finding hard to get some time to finish it.Laters.

Allright yall. Here's the latest, and probably last, well, for right now, unless someone wants me to help them with sounds.I am going to work on some other projects im trying to finnish.I took  a while to finnish this one cause I had my DSL turned off for a bit cause I wanted to relocate the service.  So tell me if there are some things I should change or correct and I can update later. Thanks for trying out my sound mods everyone.  I think I might change the rifle sounds again, but then again, they do sound like the real thing.I wish that OFP had more than sounds for just the AK74.Beings that the both are different calibers,5.62 and 7.62, the AK74 fires a bit faster than the AK47, but I'm a perfectionist and I can do only so much without reconfiguring the CONFIG file. Same goes with the M16a2 and M4 etc.

I tried to lower the kb's in the rifle sounds cause when playing when there is alot of activity and AI runing around , the sounds on auto seem to be sporadic. But thats like with Battlefields and War Cry on OFP resistance. But if you have a fast PC, it wont be a problem.

Well, i found out why my sounds are sorta sporadic for me, I think either my video card is ready to kick the bucket or my sound card is or isnt configured right.Hmm...Im pretty sure its the video card.
