Volume control of sound files
« on: 16 Jun 2004, 14:18:15 »
I'm making a cutscene with speech files for the dialogue.    So far so good - it basically works.   The only problem is volume - how do you control it?

In particular, one shot is a voice over (the camera is far away from the speaker and player) so I use playsound rather than say.    Which is fine, except that its too quiet.    I've tried changing the db+10 thing in description.ext but it doesn't seem to help.    What am I missing?

I can change the volume of the sound file itself with Goldwave, but the files are fairly poor quality to start with (crappy mic) and making the whole file louder obviously makes the background hisses, bumps and clicks louder too.   I'm sure Goldwave could get rid of them but that is also beyond me at the moment.

Many thanks.

strange... changing db +10 to db +30 or higher should work.

Remember that you have to reload the mission to see the effect.

Thanks Blanco, got it ... there's something funny about that particular sound file, it only comes out of one speaker while the others - recorded at the same time and treated the same way - come out of both.    Plus a combination of rank inattention and insufficient reloading as you guessed ... but it's nice to know that that really is what you are supposed to do.  I'll keep hitting it over the head.
