Is there an easy way to make a characters lips move without associating it with a sound file or using the frame reference style files ?

The reason i dont want to link it to a sound file is because i dont have any sound files that match the text being spoken.

Of course, if anyone wants to do a little voice acting, drop me a message, i need at least 5 difference sounding voices with american acsents...

i think u might be able to use the "TALK" command in a waypoint or trigger - not sure though - just a thought

there doesnt appear to be a talk command. There is a say command, but it requires a sound file. According to the comref 1.91 anyway....

No. The only way to get lips to move is via the "say" command, and a sound/lip file listed in your description.ext.

HOWEVER, you can sorta 'cheat':

Make an EMPTY sound file (like a 0.01 second WAV file with no sound)

Make a LIP file from some wav file (NOT the blank one above!!!). Just record yourself saying "blah blah blah blah" or something, and  then make a LIP file out of it.

Rename the wave and lip files the same name (different extentions of course). Now define the blank sound in your description.

Now to make a person's lips move, just do this:

person say ["whateverYouNamedIt", 0.001]

The 0.001 means that the text associated with this speech will ONLY be displayed if the player/camera is within 0.001 meters of the speaking unit. This keeps the titles from ever being displayed. Even if there is an empty string ("") for the sound's titles, it will still mess with any titles you try to put on the screen via scripting.

You can even try making a few different such sounds, with different length LIP files for different occasions.

Hey

That wav to lip program I got, it doesn't work, I drag the sound file into the program like it says, but no lip file gets created . . . any idea why ?

Not 100% sure O'Neil, but, I think your sound file might need to be in the same folder as the program.
Either that, or, the lip is created in the programs folder.

I haven't used this wav to lip progam yet, which is why I'm not sure.

Try it anyway.

Have a look for OFP Sound Studio in the editors depot (Under tools)

It does WAV > OGG & LIP
Among other stuff :)

Hey

Well, I was aware that it had to be in the same folder . . . the lip file never showed up in the same folder though.
I tried doing it a few times, then gave up. So I didn't delete any lip files (cause I didn't have any) which means they souldn't have been deleted IF they were in the program file. I can't find em . . .

wav2lip only works if it is on your c:/ drive:    for example it won't work if you try and do it in c:/flashpoint.

This statement is not entirely true (I suspect in only applies to windows XP) but the point is, put it on c: not in a folder.
