Sniping out of a chopper
« on: 03 May 2004, 00:29:03 »
I know that with the BAS  MH-47E you can unfasten your harness and move to the rear of the chopper when in flight, and utilise your weapon to fire.
However, you often see such films and images of sniping being done out of the side of a helicopter whilst it is on the move.
Will someone please create a script where you can snipe out of the side of a chopper such as a MH-60L and provide cover for ground troops.
If you can do some of the scripts in the BAS series of addons, then you sure as hell can do this.

Unfasten harness + MH47 flies around = you fall out back.

The only way to keep you in the bird is a looping setpos script - which doesn't account for velocity, attitude, facing, etc - and even then you'd be getting tossed around far too much to hit anything (that is even if you don't just clip out the sides or bottom of the model, which has happened to me many times).

I don't believe it can be done, or else BAS probably would have done it already :P

EDIT: that is, unless you wanted to settle for an MH-47 with a mounted sniper rifle in the back door, which would look stupid but be better than nothing.

Jeez I can barely hit someone with a Browning sometimes why a sniper rifle?

Same thing that Seal84 said, vehicles moving plus units in them unfastened equals road rash or a fall to the ground.
These two objects don't work well together due to the game engine and there is nothing that can be done.

I'd prefer a M60 mounted on the bottom of the door of a Blackhawk for more range of fire. The browning ok except its got what 35 degrees of range. A sniper rifle would only work going slow but in a high fire area with dudes shooting and such, a slowing moving Blackhawk is easy prey for machine gunners, tank mgs, AA soldiers, and me with a RPG should it be multiplayer. ;D

Even the current Mh47 is messed up sometimes when in hold position, some guy shot the chopper with an AK74 trying to hit me and it wedged the chopper over enough to start me on a slide to the side and out the door. That russian got the pleasure of seeing my body fly 100 ft to the ground.... >:(
