Surely y'all can help me!

Hey amigos, just a teeny tiny question.

I'm working on a mission where civilian rebels take over st. phillippe and take two US soldiers captive - obviously, you need to rescue them. Is there any way (I have v1.46) I can set my civvie rebels to shoot back at me (that is, set them as enemies) without having to join them to a Ruskie?

well.. you can use  addrating with negative values to make everyone hate you .. but this is your side included..

player addrating -10000

short of that.. im not sure how you can do it other than the old deletevehicle and enemy officer trick

Hmmmm. Interesting. I guess I couldn't give the civvies all negative ratings, cause then they'd kill each other.

Tell me more about this deletevehicle command?

"deletevehicle" is a way to delete ai soldiers or objects. The trick mentioned is to join as you were hoping to avoid, then delete. For example: (I just read about this the other day, so I might be off on the details here:)

place your Civvies
place an EAST OFFICER
GROUP them so East OFF is CHIEF.
then put a deletevehicle command in EAST OF INIT line (something like "deletevehicle EAST OFF")

RESULT: Civvie's have EAST side

I think another way is to just mnually edit the mission sqm file: open Notepad or similar, and manually change "side" for Civvies to EAST. This is good for FINAL work, but if you edit units, changes them to EAST SOLDIERS in EDitor.

I'm a bit sketchy on all this, so you may have to experiment orsearch for thorough answers.

yeah thats the gist of it..

 you can manually edit the guys side in the mission.sqm

from  "EAST"/"WEST"/"GEUR"/"CIV"

to another side..

but what you can do is just what Rokket said place an officer, or simply someone with a higher rank, from whatever side you want the unit to be on and group your civ's to them

then you can just put:   deletevehicle this

inside the officers init line..

as soon as the mission starts.. the civ's think they're on the side of their group leader..

he gets deleted from the game instantly and then the next highest ranked guy takes command..

all the while still thinking that he's on a different side

there is only one limitation that i know of,  someone  pointed out that at certain early morning hours this trick doesnt work properly.. have no idea why  :P

Maybe because they are sleepy??

You can also set the east officer's probablitly of pressence to zero.

deleteVehicle is, as far as I can remember, one of them fancy new commands that came together with createVehicle and such. Now, I'm not 100% sure, but you might have to have v.1.75 + (Resistance) to be able to use 'em. Try and see :)

The question is adequately answered, however. It does seem to be the simplest way to group the civvies to a russkie, and then remove the russkie. Or, why not a resistance soldier, with res set to hostile to West (and East, if ya wanna).

If you can't use the deletevehicle command, just set the "Probability of presence" slider to null, and the loon will disappear :toocool:
