Crashing problem, seeking help.
« on: 11 Apr 2004, 13:08:03 »
My apologies if this isnt the right place for it - but this place is the largest knowledgebase i know for flashpoint, so very much hoping someone here are able able to help.

I have a close friend, with a giant flashpoint problem - we both enjoy the game alot - and really enjoy playing it with em - mostly duo with apache and similar stuff - not quite relevant, but anyways :)

The problem is that his comp, who is very much similar to mine, crashes during play - pretty much everytime multiple sounds is present, like rocket salvos, or multiple tanks fires at once etc - at first it screws up sound(imagine a old school tape recorder, where the tape get filtered up, sound starts running slower etc), and then it simply crashes his comp and flashpoint with it a short time after.

Tried reinstalling both the entire comp and flashpoint a couple of times, to no avail, and then figured it might be the sound card (onboard one, same type as the one in my comp who doesnt have problems) so tried replacing it with a new one, with the result that it the sound simply dissapeared completely, and then he crashed 10 seconds after.

Anyone have had similar problems or have any idea how to solve it? - pretty much impossible for him to play ofp in any version atm :(

Thanks in advance,

-Tet

I can sympathise with the problem, it seems to me to be a sound card issue.

Has he installed the very latest drivers for his sound card.

As OFPEC is only an editing related site, I must point out that the best place for you to go with this problem is :

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi

Try the troubleshooting board.

Good luck with finding a solution.

Ah many thanks - will try to post on that site with it :)

Enigma is, we have tried a good amount of different drivers, and now a new sound card also - to no avail.

Heya Void-DK

Though I sympathse with your friends problem, I'm afraid we don't do tech support on our site... we are strictly editing only.

As well as the official forums suggested above, another place to try would be The Avon Lady's OFP site, which has some very good OFP tips.

Another solution might be getting your friend to make sure they have an up to date version of DirectX (?)

Anyway, I wish you and your friend luck :)
