NVGoggles file
« on: 14 Mar 2004, 19:54:31 »
I'm trying to alter the view colour when looking thru BIS's NVG.
I am trying to find this file,

modelOptics="optika_night";

Any ideas where I can find it?

I believe that the NV gogs are one of those few things in ofp that we cannot change,
hence why bas had to leave the orig. NV's intact even though they added custom gogs to their delta units...

I think it has something to do with the game engine... the gogs are not normal "model with textures", they have their own defines (though classified in the config as a weapon).

I honestly dont know about the details, m8, sorry.
try the official forums, or contact one of the BAS d00ds  :-* :)

And we were lookiing for a paa or pac file ........

Turns out its a P3D.
I should have known this because I have looked at it before when doing the P3D Project.

OK.........so this optika_night.p3d uses 2 textures, both of which are in the Data.pbo.

These are:

night_sum.01.paa
nightvision1.paa

Neither of which are green.

...which is why I said like I did up there  :( too bad, it could be fun with color changes,
even if just for the fun of it

Can someone please attach the two texture files here?

EDIT: So it's impossible to change the color, but what about the fuzzyness?  Doesn't one of those files pertain to that?

Yes.......night_sum.01.paa seems to be for the 'fuzziness' as you say.

However there are 4 other, similar files, which I think, although not specifically mentioned in the p3d file as used textures, are possibly called by the game engine along with the first one.

These are:

night_sum.02.paa
night_sum.03.paa
night_sum.04.paa
night_sum.05.paa

So can you just change those and see what happens?  Or attach the files here...

I've just remembered that the addon of the Terminator uses a Red overlay on the screen. Perhaps we could reverse engineer the addon to find the source files included and work form there.

What the termitaor thing did was use a semi trans red screen as a weapon scope (That is why you use the V button)

It didn't brighten the screen at all.. Just gave it a red tint (You could use the green nvg's over the top of it..)

I take it BIS wouldn't help with this if you emailed them...
Doubt it..
Worth a try though.. Maybe

Ok.......I de-pboed my Data.pbo and replaced :

night_sum.01.paa
night_sum.02.paa
night_sum.03.paa
night_sum.04.paa
night_sum.05.paa

With altered versions that have no static in them.
Then I StuffPBO'ed it back up.

Actually what I did was......I replaced each file with exactly the same texture........I only changed the file names to match.

In-game my NVG's are nice and clear now.....so it works.

btw.......I used a copy of my Data.pbo, I kept the original safe elsewhere.

I have included the file here for anyone else that wishes to try it.
The file I have attached is named night_sum.01.zip.  It is a zip file because the site will not accept a .paa file (of course).
Just unzip it and you will have the .paa file.

This is not the original night_sum.01.paa, but my altered version.  You will need to change the .01 portion to .02, .03, .04, and .05 in order to replace the others as well.

Just make 4 more copies and alter the file names to suit.

Please bear in mind that you should use a copy of Data.pbo, keep the original somewhere safe.

Anyway, my nvg's are very clear now.......hehehehehe.

Excellent job there Planck.  Mine are clear too.  You need to use the old data file for MP though,

My idea is proven!
(http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=16383;start=%2020  Second post down...)
I don't mean to slag of Planck or anything.. Just pointing out that I did find the files first (See other thread).. Just that he didn't mention me at all in his post.... Anyway, I'm rambling now ::)

Anyway.. Is it possible to change these files with out the need to do all that un-pbo-ing and pbo-ing...

Is is possible (I am sure it's not, though) to make a "NVG Emulator".. IE to make the screen lighten up...

- Ben
BTW, there is a second thread on this : http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=16383 (I posted the second page at the begining)

BTW2 : Sorry if I offended Planck at all.. I didn't mean too.. I just can't think how better to put this.. Sorry :)
