Gameplay question (joystick)

I don't know this is the right place to put this but if not
adim move it where it belongs...

It's about the controls
I saw you can assign your rudder if you use a joystick, but it works with heli's but not with airplanes ( Not even with the A10 or other official OFP planes)
I tried it on some unofficial planes too, but maybe that's normal.
It's hard to hit something with unguided weapons when you can't use your rudder.
I've got a Microsoft precision pro 2 and my rudder works great cause I play IL-2 Sturmovik too with that joystick.
Is the rudder only usefull with helicopters? Is this a bug?
Or is there something else I need to know?
