sp does veiw distance?

does the command setveiwdistance  work with single player missions or is it down to the  player to set it in options screen

 it dosnt seem to work for me  it does in mp missions  ... but not in single player missions  ..
in single i can adjust viz levels in options sreen and trigger dosnt seem to be recognized (ie setveiwdistance 1500 and i still get default display of 900)
is it up to the individuall to select visabillity distance in options screen????
