Help me land this damned helo!
« on: 20 Jan 2004, 15:01:03 »
I am not sure what the problem is here.  I have a Blackhawk full of loons that spends the mission running a script, chasing down Ivans.  Once the last Ivan is dead a trigger is activated (this trigger needs to be true for the helo to move onto it's next waypoint).  The helo is then supposed to proceed to a `transport unload' wp directly on an invisible H, and set down so the loons can get out.   Trouble is, the sucker won't.  Just hovers around like a big git.

I have added thepilotsname land "Land" and thehelosname land "Land" to the wp On Activation, I have tried putting them in a script, I have tried changing the type of wp to `Unload', `Move', `Hold' and everything else I can think of.  The loons `get out' wp is properly synchronised to the helo's last wp.  If I grab a Dragunov and shoot the pilot in the face the helo drops to the ground and everyone gets out and proceeds happily with the mission.  The only problem is getting the helicopter down to the ground.  His behaviour is set to `careless' (or should be).

Bring on the wisdom, I have read every tutorial I can get my hands on and they all make it seem so simple, so where am I going wrong?

You should synchronise the waypoints of the chopper with the team inside.
Get those missions out there you morons!

Make sure you have read the specific chopper tutes.

Try moving the invisible H a little - he may not like that particular spot.

Try a move waypoint just before the unloand one, putting the land command in that.

Safe might be better than careless, dunno.

Helicopters, like all gits, are never simple.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

All good ideas, all tried, to no avail.  Sod it, the loons'll just have to learn to swim.  Thx anyway guys.  (PS, I have looked as best I can with the editing centre down and Google misbehaving but I've yet to find a helo tute that deals with landing!  I have a fine collection of tutes on parachuting, piloting and taking off though.   :) )

You could try and add  heliname flyinheight 0  to the On Activation line of the waypoint.  This should make the heli land.  Then set the timer for that waypoint for however long you want chopper to stay there.
