Adding Unofficial Objects
« on: 21 Jan 2004, 01:44:28 »
Hi there!

I have downloaded Agent Smith's construction Kits and I would like to add them on a map from the WrpEdit. In the ReadMe of Agent Smith's construction Kits it says:

Quote
All models are in ODOL format.
If you place any of these on the map, you have to remove "\" from the begining of the model name string.

I can't figure out what this means. can someone enlighten  me a little?

  Thanks in advance!!  :D

Oh ya! I forgot to mention, when I save my map and start the game, it isn't there! Why is that?

Nevermind, I got it? 8)

------Sorry, I should have typed the answer to my problem before. (To make this thread at least useful for those having the same problem.)

in the WrpEdit, when placing the objects with the New Object Requester, simply delete the "\" before the name of the object. otherwise, when loading the map with the game, the object won't be loaded!

HI! I have yet another problem, there are some addons I can't add on a map from the WRPedit! I get a message loke:

"Model "addon.p3d" is not loaded. continue?"

Why is that? Can someone help me with that?

I also once clicked "Yes" on the qestion above but the addon did not appear on the map. and now,, when I load my map, it gives me a warning mssage:

"Some model(s) not loaded (see log). Flags cannot be calculated correctly. World file loaded as read only."

Is this bad? I hope not cos I've been working three days on that and I had to restart once all over cos Wrpdit could not load my map anymore!

  Thanks in advanve people!!

When adding third party addons, don't use the Addons folder list in the PB Manager.  the ones that start with a '\'.

You need to press the Add button in the top left corner and navigate to the correct pbo in the Addons folder.

You will then find a second listing for this addon in the Pb Manager window list.  Use this to add the object

Your problem with the one you added is easily fixed.......just delete the addon from your map and resave.  Then you can add it properly as detailed above.

Thanks a lot Planck!!  8)

For my second problem, the item I have placed (the one non loaded) is not appearing on the map. I remember deleting it already. What I have also done is select the entire area where I am building and checked in the "Selected Objects" window and it is not listed. Still I get this scarry warning message. What can I do except than restarting all over again?? Please help! :-\

Make a backup copy of your wrp.....put it somewhere safe.

The load up your wrp into Wrpedit..........in the objects list window......select the object (if it is still listed there), then right click and choose remove object.

Let me know.

Oh! And I do as You told me to, to load the addon from the addons folder, another folder appears in the PB manager. I select it but get the sme error message:  "Model "addon.p3d" is not loaded. continue?"

Might it be that I have to Binarize it before or something like that?

no, it's a telephone box from Zwadar. Well actually there are more addons from other people as well that I would like to add from the wrpedit. The only ones I have managed to place are the original OFP items and those great construction kits from Agent Smith!

It'd be much nicer if I could add a few other items like a phone booth for example, and a garagee and so on!

   What should I do?

BTW. thanx a lot for Your help!  :D

I have the radio tower.......just tried it.......didn't work.

I looked at it it is an MLOD file.......I think this is the reason.

WrpEdit likess ODOL files.

You can Binarize them..........but you would need to ask the addon makers if you planned to release the island..........many of them give permission for this sort of thing in the readmes anyway.

Best to ask first though.

I can't work with this Binarize tool. Can someone help me?

I do exactly as told in the ReadMe (BIS Binarize tool) and I've got Colonel Klink's as well but neither work.

I've installed the "Binarize.zip" files in  E:\Binarize

Then I've pasted an addon's folder in the same directory.

Named the addon directory "Bin MyAddon"

Then clicked on "Bin.bat"

What happens is an "Opt" folder appears like supposed but it is always empty. What am I doing wrong??

I remember I had a similar problem getting Binarize to work, even with Col Klinks interface.

I edited the file bin.bat and it worked fine thereafter.

Here is what my bin.bat looks like now:

@echo off

@rem Model file optimization
rem Cemove current content
rd /s /q Opt\%1

rem Create target directory
mkdir Opt\%1

rem Perform binarization
binarize -textures=Opt -exclude=Opt\exclude.lst %1 Opt\%1

rem Copy all except model and textures
xcopy %1 Opt\%1 /exclude:exclude.txt

rem Note: textures referenced from other addons or pbo files
rem can be found in corresponding Opt subdirectories (like Opt/Data)

:EndOfFile

Maybe it will work for you also.

No it didn't work! :-\

I must be doing something wrong somewhere.

I right clicked the Bin.bat and chose "Modify". then copied/pasted Your work into the Bin.bat file.

The I ertried with BIS Binarize and and Colonel Klink's one and still nothing!

If I'm not abusing of Your time, do You have any other idea?

  Thanks  :D

Ok........lets check what files you have in your Binarize folder.

I have:

binarize........folder
bin.bat
binarize.exe
BinarizeIT.exe........Col Klinks Interface
exclude.txt
readme.txt

Possibly we should take this to PM.

I have 2 extra files in there. I don't know what they are though.

1. binarize.RPT

2. context.BIN

they first appeared when I tried to binarize an addon.

P.S.: What is PM?

PM = Personal Message

Do you have the folder with the addon you want to binarize in there also.......complete with any necessary files inside......like textures etc.

I'm about to go play Solitaire online!!! It's still not working.
I'm sure I don't get the folder thing. Here's how I do it.

I have now UnPBOed the addon. Copied/pasted the folder in the Binarize folder, named the folder with the unPBOed files "Bin MyAddon" then runned the Bin.Bat application.

Still the "Obt" folder appears empty. plus there are those two files apparing in the binarize folder named

1. binarize.RPT

2. context.BIN

I guess I don't get this part right:

Quote
- run bin.bat with the addon directory name as parameter (E.g. "bin myaddon")

what does directory name as parameter?? to simply change the folder name or...?

Don't rename the folder you get after unpacking leave it as it is.

run bin bat .....like this:

bin foldername

Just replace foldername with the name of the folder.

You mean I rename the Bin.Bat file to Bin "foldername"?

If it is then it still doesn't work. I'm desperate!!!

If I double clic the Bin "foldername" icon, then it does the same as earlier. The "Obt" is created but is empty.

Now if I use Colonel Klink's, then it says "Run-Time Error "53" File not found"

I guess it would be cos the bin.bat doesn't have the same name anymore.

I hope I'm not getting on Your nerves too much!!

No no..........when you Unpbo the addon you will get a folder, this folder will have the same name as the addon pbo.

Presuming the addon pbo was called  bighouse.pbo, you will end up with a folder called bighouse.

To binarize it run bin.bat thus:

bin bighouse

Better still ........use Col Klinks interface........and rename bin.bat back to bin.bat

If I use Colonel Klink's interface, I choose from its window the folder I want to binarize then clic "Binarize it NOW!"

But nothing happens. I get no messages nor anything new in the binarize folder.

  I give up.

But thanks for Your respectable patience and support.

I will try with Your Bin.bat version once again. maybe it will work.

P.S. I don't understand what You mean by:

Quote
To binarize it run bin.bat thus:

bin bighouse

How do I do this?
