artillery firing at nothing question
« on: 09 Jan 2004, 06:18:33 »
I DL'd a mortar addon.

I want to have a a mortar battery in the woods firing away while my SF moves in to destroy them.

How do I get the mortar to fire into the air?
It dosn't matter where the rounds fall.

I placed the mortar on the map and I placed a invis heloH in front of him which I setpos 10 m off the ground.
I had the mortar guy call the script  which told him to dotarget then dofire at the heloH.
Then I tried commandtarget and commandfire.
Then instead of the H i used a hard object- a chair.
Then i tried all global names instead of local.
None of that worked.
Then I tried a diff script that looped  _myguy fire ["mortar2","mortar2shell"]--that didn't work either--does that only work witht he weapons the soldier is carrying?

I've seen it done, and i'll keep looking. I was just wondering if there was a obvious solution that is not obvious to me  ;D

thx for you time

The AI mortars are not that good for far targets.

There is a 'fake' artillery firing script included in Snypir's support pack. By editing that part i think you could make anything fire at any direction and then spawn the incoming rounds where you want them to hit. There's an example mission with an m198 and some abrams tanks serving as long range artillery.
