American civil war?
« on: 08 Jan 2004, 08:02:22 »
Has anybody thought of creating units, maps and missions based on the American Civil war?  The rate of fire will have be very slow, posible use of the mortar loading animation for the loading of muzzle loading weapons.  The personal weapons of the troops will also need to make a lot of smoke ala balck powder, about as half as much as the smoke from the tank guns maybe.  I particulary had the battle of GettysBurg in mind.  The addon/ mod will work well with the Command engine of CoC I think.  The only real problem is the cavalry units (Horse mounted) and horse drawn field guns.  I am sure all these can be solved.  This could be an interisting project.

IF the horse problem can be sovled the Anglo-Boer war of 1895-1905 in South Africa could also be done.  In this conflict the English regular army (rednecks), tried to pin down the Boer Komandoes (Light Cavalry militia wich fought dismounted most of the time).  Altough the Boer army was out numberd at least 10 to 1 in most battles, they trashed the English with their hit and run tacticks.  The Boers only surrendered after the farms was burnt down and their famlies, women and children were hearded in to concentration camps.  Thousands died, more than the actual fighting casualties on both sides combined, mostly due to disease and malnutrition.
Another intresting project.

A very good idea. And what about Napoleonic wars?. Closed formations, bayonets an a lot of smoke. Perhaps the start its a working horse addon.

Good idea, but I dont think the Napolionic wars would work. Too many units running around, it would take one hell of a powerfull computer to make it run smoothly.

On the other hand... If you used CoC's Unified Artilery script and applied it to old-fashion mortors and cannons... ;D
