How to create own unit?
« on: 26 Oct 2002, 07:57:57 »
First of I would like to declare myself 100% noob at this stuff.  I've been wanting to create my own unit for some time now but havnt found out exactly how or what programs to d/l etc etc etc.  I guess I wouldnt be actually making my unit but just retexturing is what I'm told.  So can you guys help this pathetic noob out and tell me   what programs I need and what I need to do?

just retexturing is what your told?  ;D
Well you can make your own unit model aswell if you want, and texture that?

In which case you need O2 which you must of heard mentioned http://www.flashpoint1985.com/breathe.
also d/l buldozer from there also.

So I guess you a Noob to modelling aswell?
Okay if you want to be modelling in O2 then try out some of the tutorials for it you can find, Abuu has one on here (ofpec).
There are also a few over here http://ofp.info/brsseb/ by brsseb. There good for getting you started, also there are some Demo models that you can look at/use in O2 that are very helpful.

most of them still need x-packing (thats a tool you can also d/l on here (ofpec).
Also when you have memory points/selections its in Czech, but if you grab these translations by a_lone_wolf it will help alot.

if you have no idea what I mean by memory points and selections, dont worry you will soon enough.

Jonno, if this list of needed d/ls for modelling has not been made "sticky" already, would you make it "sticky"?

I would yes, but not in this board, but in the O2 board where a very similar list is already sticky  ;)

I've got the stuff which is mentioned on this page, but I just can't open the p3d files in 02 even though i've unpaced them with x-pact. Does any of you guys on this homepage have some usable (in O2) files you would like to mail me (Western tank crew in particular)? You would make me a great favour then...

To change the textures on an existing model, you don't need to use O2. Just get this from the editor's depot:

P3D Texture Swap Utility v1.0.2
by Mike Schell

Oh and by the way I'm also a complete NOOB at this stuff too, and I just recently reskinned my first model. I tried to use O2, but then someone pointed me to this utility, and it was MUCH easier.
