Plzzz help with lame thunder!
« on: 02 Dec 2003, 06:04:24 »
Hi,

I am very very new to sound editing so bare with me.
After looking at a few tutorials and giving it a go I decided sound was not my arena!! :)

However I feel the thunder sound in the game is very lame and I have a few wave files of thunder that any one is welcome to edit and offer as an alertnative to OFP thunder!!

Cheers!! :)

Hey

I'm not sure if my solution would be probable.

I'd say, unpbo the DTA folder, find the thunder sounds (Should be .wss) & replace them with your sounds, then repbo it.

If you have absolutly no idea what I just said, don't worry, you'll stuff things up if you try ;)

go to the DTA folder and un-pbo the sound.pbo file open the sound folder go into the environmental folder and u will find thunder.wss, thunderhard.wss and other thunders
i guess if u replace these and re-pbo it will work but it could mess up your ofp
hope this didnt confuse you :P

Hey guys thanks for the response.

Iam afraid I am not that familiar wiuthout opening pbos and re packaging and I know for a FACT I'll end up messing OFP :)

What I was really looking for is instead of replacing the OFP sound files was to add to it. And then use it through a trig. Just like the BAS many many sounds or any other sound for that matter.

I guess my question is how do you add any sound to the game period??

Thanks for helping me with these silly questions :)

Hey

http://www.ofpec.com/editors/browse.php?category=1_2

Go to "Adding music to your mission" by me ;)
If you read it, it'll tell you also how to add sounds, it's basically the same process ;)

I think what Captain Bravo means is to make an
addon, which adds new ingame sounds, available
like the ones, already in the game.

Like BAS did on their Tohnal island, where it gives
you new sounds/music/FX options in the trigger
or waypoint's effect menu's.

I am not familar with addon making, therefore i can only
suggest you to have a look onto addon-making or let your
thread move over to addon making.

I can only assume, but i believe it has to be done similar
to adding sound to your missions (description.ext file),
and to include your sound.wss or sound.ogg files.
Maybe a config.cpp file too, and then pbo'ing all together.

Then you would put it into the addons folder, and you should
be able to access them.

As i already said, if it's that what you want, head over to
addon-making.
