Aircraft fly-by and take off
« on: 14 Nov 2003, 08:02:59 »
I got a scene in a mission Im creating where I start next to an airstrip.  I got a heli fly by that works, but the choppers seem to fly too irradically. They dont just fly by fluidly like they should.  They start in the air at altitude 30 (I want them low) and they have a single waypoint.  I just want them to fly by for the wartime effect and after they go by, their gone, never to be seen again.

Also, at the airstrip, I have an A-10 set for takeoff...but dont know how to make it "take off" fly off and be gone as well.  I can I do this?  Can I have a pair of A-10's take off in unisen?

:oHuh choppers in OFP flying fluidly... that's possible ???....  ;D :P
Yes, choppers in ofp are like that... nothing you can do about it really. ::) Make shure you don't have em' grouped, and far away from each other :)

You wanted them to dissappear, right :-\... If so, use deletVehicle vehiclename at the last waypoints onActivation-field but if you wanted em' to just circle around forever, use a cycle waypoint... but you probably allready knew that so I'm gonna shut up about that now :-X...

Well I'm not so experienced when it comes to making A10's taking off but what I do know is, that it's not possible to make aircraft fly off from the northern island near Nogova, because planes only land or take off and land north (uppwards). And as for that dissappearing thing same as with the choppers. ;)

Good luck ;D

[\edit] Oh and also about those planes, try putting a single pilot and a empty plane on the map, and have the pilot get in and THEN fly off... seems to work for some people :) [edit]

Use the command flyInHeight like this

chopper1 flyInHeight 10

to make 'em fly at the height you want.

You can get only one plane to take off at a time, but you can have a group of two planes who will take off one after the other.     Column formation is probably best, you can change it when they are in the air.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

How to get a plane to take off:

1. Place a plane on the taxiway or runway of a working airport

2. No step 2, thats all it takes!

No, actually I didnt.  All I knew about was the waypoint cycle part.

The airstrip Im talking about is on the Western desert part of Nagova.
I put an A-10 at the end of the runway, gave it a "move" waypoint out in the ocean somewhere out of view.  But the plane just sat there, moving a few inches forward...but never actually taking off. :-\

So what do I do here, place a plane from the "empty" selection , put a pilot near the plane, have the pilot (via waypoint) get in it, and then give the pilot another waypoint after he has mounted the plane, and it should take off that way?

Just place the aircraft conplete with pilot on the taxiway........he will take off.........no need to give him any waypoints at all........he will take off and fly away.

As already stated by ME...this does not work. ::)
I just tried it, now I dont know what your definition of a "working airport" is, but I assume its a big long runway, with attached taxiways and a couple hangers next to it...which is what Im working with.  I put the plane there, no waypoints. It taxied forward about 50 meters, then stopped.  Is there maybe some code I need to put in there or what? :-\

The main airfield on Nogova is a 'working; runway.

It does work, because I have done it many many times.

Try putting the aircraft at the start of the runway......south end.

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED! (yay, pink)

Thats your problem, it only works one way... so, place the plane eaither facing north on the south end of the runway, or facing south and anywhere on the taxiway....

If you want two A-10s, just as easy, place one behind the other... And if you want to make them land, use a GET OUT waypoint, or the unit land "LAND" command. But remember, when using GET OUT waypoints, the plane want start to land until it reaches the GET OUT waypoint, so place it somewhere south of the runway....

Your right...I put the plane on the southern end of the runway, and it took right off :D

About the land command...what exactly is the command and where do I put it?  Im just learnin this scriptin'  jazz ::) Internal scripts are alot easier than external!! Im tryin to get the Internal scripting down before I tackle the  external! ;D

Thx for the info :-*    (sarcastic ;))

Just place a waypoint at the end south of the runway and in the activation type in this land "Land"
