How to group units
« on: 28 Oct 2003, 15:36:26 »
This may sound as a silly question!!!

But I have a problem, when grouping single units.

I have already read the tuts on the subjects.. But they do not solve my problem..

PROBLEM...
- single player mission
- 5 units meet.
- they join as a group, with AP as the leader and controller of the group.

Question:

1: How do I join the 5 individuals in one group.
2: How do I specify the group.
3: How does AP gain control of the units. ( i.e. gain the ability to give orders to a unit)

Yes it is a silly question.. And yes I might be able to read to tuts about the subject..
But they do not cover how to make the group... just how to count units i a group or something else....

I NEED THE BASICS... Clean and simple...

Clean and simple? No such thing in OFP editing. There's only cleaner and simpler. So I'm going to give you the slightly less ugly and slightly easier version, although rest assured there are others.

1) the command is join and works like so: [unit1, unit2, unit3, unit4] join unit5. Just change the unit1/unit5 to the names for the five units you have and you've got it. As to when the command should be exectuted...well, that's another question all together.

2) You mean naming one? Groupname = group SomeUnit. Groupname will be the group's name (not the Alpha Black thing, but the stuff the editor understands) and SomeUnit is any unit who is in the group you want to specify. Say for instance Wgroup1= group aP.

3) by using the method lined out in answer #1. Just make sure they're joining aP, and not the other way around. I'm not sure about this, but since it's logical you should make sure aP is also of higher rank than the people who join him. But I suspect it's possible to have people of higher ranks flock around you too.  ;)

Hope these helped, if anything's unclear, just ask away. G'luck

It is!
Usualy I play as a private leading colonels into a big ambush and then I kill all the commies, all alone - sounds a bit contraditory from mine ;D.

A bit off topic, huh? :-\ ::)

Alternatively (just when you thought it was clear and simple hehehehe) you can use waypoints.    Give each loon a JOIN waypoint, except for aP who gets a JOIN AND LEAD waypoint.    Now snychro all the join waypoints to the joinandlead wp.    Bingo.

Test it first with just one loon joining aP, then once you have that working add in the other units.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play
