Dropping a Jeep from a 130?
« on: 10 Sep 2002, 09:50:54 »
I was wondering if it was possible to drop a vehicle from a moving aircraft, like the new C-130 that was recently released? I was messing around with the thing when the idea struck, but I had no idea how to go about it. I envision a flight of two or three C-130's one dropping a full troop load and the other two dropping some MG jeeps, or maybe a Marine FAV or two. Does anybody see how cool that would be?
I was thinking that it could be done with a trigger, some sort of Getpos command, and an empty jeep at some location ont he map. When C130 A activates the trigger, the Jeep is called from it's location and multiple parachutes are put on it. Is this possible?
I don't know if it'll work or not...

Well, I checked out that script, and it's not quite what I was looking for. The Chinook lands before it drops the Jeep off, I'm looking for something to drop it from the air? Maybe with this system the 130 could make a touch-and-go landing, dropping the Jeeps and such behind.... but how to make an airplane do a touch-and-go landing?

the c-130 should be able to drop off stuff in flight........so u could like warp in jeeps as it flies by

its not exactly that realistic cuz the jeep isnt really inside the c-130 but o well.........jus for looks

I know I can get it to drop out of the aircraft.... but how can one get it to the ground? The thing'd probably explode on impact. Is there a way to slow the descent and add three or four parachutes for aesthetic purposes?

like many things in this game, cars too don't follow physics, jeeps will not even be dammaged on impact, but to get em to fall, they have 2 be occupied, or else they will just float there, but they only need 2 be occupied for a sec, so u can move the vehicle occupant out and away in the same script  :) p.s. u can do a looped setpos command to slow the decent

im also having a prob....ive checked out the code snippet on para dropping vehicle but i can understand what he means by this....

Now you only have to set the variable release1 to 1 (using triggers or waypoint commands) and the chopper will drop the cargo.

If someone knows plz plzzz tell me how to use this it might help this guy out also

Not to go against the grain here, but in real life most of the time large vehicles like jeeps are not dropped from high up. The C-130's do touch and gos, with a small parachute pulling the cargo (which is usually strapped down tight to some kind of container board) out of the back of the C-130. The cargo slides for a ways before coming to rest.

It'd most likely be easier to script as well

With the new setVelocity command, it should be a lot easier to make good "drop" scripts.
