Linux dedicated server issues.
« on: 26 Sep 2003, 11:52:42 »
Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is really the best place to post this, but I wouldn't know where else to put it.

I'm having some issues getting a dedicated linux server (1.92beta) up and running. The standard missions work fine as do some of my simple home-made missions with some of our home-made addons. Some others however... simply do not work. You choose them in the mission selection screen and instantly get zapped back to that same screen without the misison doing anything.

I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. If I take a mission which is crawling with my squad's own addons, as well as the VITAPC stuff, KLR motorcycles and whatnot, and it runs fine. I stick in a simple bog standard HMMWV and the above issue raises it's ugly head.

I was hoping there might be some dedicated server guru's out there who recognise this problem and have some idea where to look to solve the issue.

Thanks in advance, whoever picks this up.

I've seen this on both Linux and Windows servers and it is always the same thing: Either you are missing an addon that the mission requires, or the mission.sqm file references an addon that although is not used in the mission, is "called out" in the addons section.

Other things to check: Make sure all addon names and mission names are in lowercase.

I've also heard that some addons just don't work on linux boxes.  Not sure if this is true, but it is verified that a scud launch will crash a linux server.

SO I guess I would open the mission.sqm, look for entries in the ADDONS or AUTO ADDONS section that don't exist or aren't needed and remove them.  The resave and export the mission from the editor.

Hope this helps.  Good luck!

Thank you very much. The lower case mission names was it. I had a bit of an inkling it would be something like that, but I just couldn't find it.

Now I have to try and not launch any scuds... at least I can finally play OFP on my colocated 100mbit server instead of a lousy ADSL line... bandwidth problems finally solved.

Thanks again anyways...
