Getting Fixed Wing Aircraft to take off
« on: 07 Sep 2002, 06:11:17 »
Hi All,

I know this has been discussed a few times before in the earlier forums, but...... ;D

How do you get fixed wing aircraft to take off from airfield.  More so how can you get them to taxi and then take off if possible.

I just downloaded the C-130 and I am already trying to get a couple of sticks of Rangers to board it, have it taxi, take off, fly over and conduct a paradrop.

And suggestions or wisdom would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks again

Robert

The main thing is which map you're using cause I think on nogova only on of the airfields is functional (the desert one).

If you take Malden AB for example you put your C130 with no fuel (so it can't start till you "refueled" it...) on the northern part of the taxiway close to the landingway (the other second line ones won't work realy...).
Now make you're parachuters board the plane and if all have boarded "refuel" it.
Now it should start driving done the runway turning at the end and starting to take of.

I haven't tested this with the C130. I don't know what "radius" it needs to turn 180°!?! For a A-10 or Cessna it works fine but for this big bird (...even if scaled 1/2) this may to difficult (not in RL...it can turn on a dime).

Btw, you can also make the pilot enter after your parachuters so you don't have to do that "fuel" action.

The Airfield I am using is in north Eden.  I have the C-130 on the taxi way near the maingate of the airfield and have the troops board it ok, using the same method you suggested regarding the fuelstate.  The C-130 heads down the taxi way via waypoints I set and it does its best to turn and line up on the strip, however when it comes headin' down the strip it veers off into the field and blows up.

I am not sure if I need to set down any special waypoints or any thing in the activation fields.

On the waypoint on the far end of the strip I tried adding C-130 flyInHeight 150 but it does not work.

I am mostly stuck on the type, placement and configuration of the waypoints for the C-130 ???

You don't need any waypoints for the take off action! It's completely "automatic driven".

Put your first wp a lil' to the north of the runway and go on from there...only "air" waypoints. ;)

Quick note: On SEB Ia Trang, the Nam island, only the special forces airstrip works, and even then, the only two aircraft that can take off from teh short strip are the C-130 and the cessna... all other aircraft just blow at the end.

Stupid pilots, but then again, jets aren't supposed to take off from such a short airfield anyway....

Yes, damn right!!! Same prob at Nogova...only the desert airfield is working. :(

Seems like there can be only one functional AB on an island!?!
