CAS With Flare
« on: 01 Sep 2003, 20:02:43 »
Basically, just a script that when activated, detects where the player throws a flare, asks him how close via the action menu, them cam-creates a bomb to drop where it was specified.  I suppose it would also have to determine which side of the flare the player was on.  I have seen airstrike scripts, but none that use flares.  If this is possible, it would also be nice to somehow have an A-10 flyover but not drop the bomb, have the bomb cam-created direcly below it, so it appears that the A-10 did drop it.  Thanks in advance.  I'll definetly test it if someone decides to make it.

I guess you mean to use a smoke grenade and not a flare..

I don't think it is very realistic way of calling in CAS.. atleast not
as a target marker.. as you can't trow the grenade that far you
are more likely going to be blown up yourself.. But if one have a
smoke grenade for the M203 or rifle grenade...

The BAS uh-60 has a feature where you throw an infa red strobe at night to mark extraction....i tihnk this could be easily modified for CAS.....think Blackhawk Down where eversmann throws it onto the roof for the littlebirds...

Ah, that stobe would be cool, but who knows what BAS will come up with in those updates.  Ah, if you have seen Tears of the Sun, at the end when the F/A-18's came rolling in he threw a smoke grenade and said over the radio "Danger Close" or something similar.

Thats what I am looking for, but that stobe idea sounds good as well.

Found this somewhere..

You must understand that artillery compliments CAS. Arty provides marking of tgts, SEAD for CAS aircraft. But they are all weather capable. and able to engage tgts closer to friendly troops tha air can. Danger close for 155mm is 500 meters +/- (Can be up to 650m) Danger close for 1000lb bomb is 1000 meters.

So even with a m203 smoke grenade it is going to be Danger Close.. :-)
