Object function completely broken ?
« on: 07 Sep 2003, 17:39:21 »
Ho-ho, the comref says that the 'object' function can be used to return an object based upon its id (as entered in the missions file).  Whenever I try it, eg

_obj = object 1

it gratuitously crashes OFP for me - this happens in both the mission editor and for exported missions.  I've tried this with both 1.85 and 1.91 with the same results.  Has anyone got any tips or is it really completely broken ?

On a related note, 'object' would be a hell of a lot more useful (assuming it worked) if there was a reciprocal 'id' function that returned the id of an object. Grumble, grumble....

I think object ID's are used by OFP to organize the content of an Island? They refer to bushes e.t.c If you click on the Show ID's button in the editor, and zoom in on some terrain.

That probably answer's you second point as well. As I don't think you can use an objects ID, with anything other than the object command, as far as scripts go.

Hmm - are we talking about the same thing ?  When you create a mission, all the objects in the mission.sqm file have a line saying 'id=nn'.  nn starts at 0 and is incremented for each object.  I'd imagined that the 'object' function was supposed to return a pointer to the object based on this id.
