Low altitude
« on: 24 Aug 2003, 01:37:27 »
I'm creating a mission with Littlebirds flying constantly at a low altitude, and I need them to stay low, for the whole mission. Unfortunetly, there are in a rather small location and it's difficult for the AI to manuever, but that's not the point. I want a squad that's riding the Littlebird be able to disembark, do their objective and get back on quickly without the Littlebird moving. It'd be great if it would stay in the same spot during the unload/load sequence. I just can't get the soldiers to get out without the chopper flying a mile away to a clear area. If you need any more info, well, just ask :).

Oh, I wrote to much again...that's jst like me :D.

That's where the command: flyinheight comes in handy

as long as you need it so:

choppername flyinheight height_in_meters

and if you don't need it anymore, just change the height
to fly again to what you need

Actually, that's what I've been using. I tried flyinheight 0-3 but none of them made the chopper land. If it's any constellation (I think I spelled it right), the chopper is suppost to fly a 4 the entire mission.

The chopper doesn't land upon the flyinheight command

choppername land "LAND"

would make him land

look here (taken from the official comref)

Code: [Select]
helicopter land mode
Operand types:
    helicopter: Object
    mode: String
Type of returned value:
    Nothing
Description:
Force helicopter landing. Landing mode may be "LAND" (complete stop), "GET IN" (hovering very low, for another unit to get in), "GET OUT" (hovering low,for another unit to get out)

Example:
    cobraOne land "LAND"

Just one more thing,

as you were already asking about the waypoint type
scripted, and i gave you a link to my explanation,

i would suggest that this may be perfect for your idea.

Your problem might be that the chopper tries to stick back
to his waypoints, while in case of a wayoint type: scripted
the chopper would follow the orders of your script, ignoring
further waypoints, until the script has ended.

I already tried the unitname land "land" trick, had the same effect of a waypoint :-\. Where was the link? I forgot :-[.

I downloaded the example mission, hope that's what you were talking about.  :). I would've stayed to read it, but I got a monkey on my back if you know what I mean :).

I can't get the chopper to land without flying high in the air. Can someone please give this idea a try?: http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=12423

Is there a script that will make a chopper unload its cargo (i.e. soldiers) via scripting command on Waypoint?

Grim, i've just posted a reply at BIS forum to your
choper unload question.

I don't wanna always post the same stuff over and over
again.

May i invite you to have a look to the thread over there
itself?

Maybe you find what you're asking for there:

:edit - forgot to say: it's my second reply in the thread
i wanna show you

And btw - the thingy with choppers going high before unloading
troops comes from the game itself, so i think there's not
really much you can do about it.
