Hello everybody out there

I'm just a few short steps above a newbie editing-wise.
I have a lot of questions so expect to see my username plenty of times around this forum.

For now it's:
1: What does the 'Detected by <>' mean?
2: What is the 'Name' section for?

These are both located inside Triggers.

Welcome to the forums, GrimMonkey

To address your questions...
  • 1. There are four 'sides' in OFP. East, West, Resistance and Civilian.

The Present option dictates which of these side the trigger will 'see'. If you were to set it to one side (say west), the trigger wouldn't 'see' units from any other side.
You also have the option of setting it to anybody present, so it will 'see' any side.
  • You can name a trigger just as you can name any other object. This is useful for when you want to move it around, or get a list of all units inside the trigger (You'd use: list trigger).

Sorry, GrimMonkey... I completely mis-read your question :(

The detected by trigger will go off when one side detects any units from the other selected side.
A few things to note:
  • The trigger radius must cover both the unit detecting and the unit being detected for the trigger to activate. If only one of the units is inside the trigger, it won't go off.
  • If you get a list of units a 'detected by' trigger gives, you'll notice that it returns the units that are doing the detecting. (Which isn't really all that useful in most cases :P)
  • These triggers work best when the units detecting are in groups... single units can find it hard to detect in some situations.
Maybe I'll get it a bit closer to being right this time ::) ;D

I'm getting a little woozy myself. Not because of sleepiness, it's because I'm trying to learn how to properly use cameras and get people to talk, both of which I have no idea how :help:. I've downloaded tutorials but all of the Helvecta text makes me dizzy :P.

If i remember correctly, it's just the unit to be detected,
who's required to be inside the trigger area.

I was using this at least one year ago, so shame on me
if i remember wrong now, but afaik it's just the unit to be
detected, referring to the trigger's_list.

Hmm... right you are Chris!

I had a mission a long while back where I was having issues with detected by triggers... I seemed to fix it by making sure both units were within the radius.

However, I guess it must just have been that the detected units was outside the radius (silly me ;D ;D).

Thanks for poking holes in my explanation... I appreciate learning new things :)
