mistake with mod folders
« on: 18 Aug 2003, 13:58:45 »
not sure at all where to place this but hopefully this will do...

i rearranged my addons by putting them into mod folders recently but in doing so i also rearranged the original BIS addons into other folders.  what I would like is to have all the official Addons back in the Addons folder (or Res Addons folder as appropriate).   does anyone have a list of these or know which are the official ones so I can sort them out.

cheers,

mikeb

Here's hoping I got them right:

I have the Original OFP upgraded to 1.46, then Red Hammer and then Resistance, now at 1.91.

The base OperationFlashpoint/AddOns folder should have these:

Quote
6G30.PBO
ABOX.PBO
APAC.PBO
BIZON.PBO
BMP2.PBO
BRMD.PBO
CH47.PBO
FLAGS.PBO
G36A.PBO
HUMR.PBO
HUNTER.PBO
KOZL.PBO
LASERGUIDED.PBO
M2A2.PBO
MM-1.PBO
OH58.PBO
STEYR.PBO
SU25.PBO
TRAB.PBO
VOICERH.PBO
VULCAN.PBO
XMS.PBO

while the Res/AddOns have these:
Quote
6G30.PBO
ABOX.PBO
APAC.PBO
BIZON.PBO
BMP2.PBO
BRMD.PBO
CH47.PBO
FLAGS.PBO
G36A.PBO
HUMR.PBO
HUNTER.PBO
KOLO.PBO
KOZL.PBO
LASERGUIDED.PBO
M2A2.PBO
MINI.PBO
MM-1.PBO
NOE.PBO
O_WP.PBO
O.PBO OFP
OH58.PBO
STEYR.PBO
SU25.PBO
TRAB.PBO
VULCAN.PBO
XMS.PBO

And I have *no* other addons in the Res/Addons folder. Basically, *never* put any addons there. Chuck them in a mod folder of your choosing.

The base Addons folder could, in principle be kept clean too if it weren't for the fact that
  • There are a lot of old 1.46, (i e pre-1.85) addons out there that havent been upgraded to work in a mod folder. Fair enough.
  • There are a lot of so-called 1.85+ addons that are broken(1) that also have to be put in the OFP/AddOns folder
(1) Broken: not configured correctly with regards to the requiredAddons property that all addons intended for OFP of version 1.85 or later should have. It's fixable, but many addon makers/mod groups seem slow/reluctant do to so in a timely fashion. This is probably because they have their Res/AddOns folder full of garb...addons and could care less about making them "strictly correct".

To addons/mod makers: get the requiredAddons[] property into your addons from day one. And make that list complete. Of course, not all addons need it. If you don't know whether or not your addon needs it, then maybe it's time to do some reading on the subject.  ;)

cheers killswitch,

answered my question AND an explanation why I often get error messages, etc AND gave out a mission statement to addons makers to comply with property requirements.

all in all a very good post (mine are rubbish, take this one as an example  :P)
