chopper help
« on: 27 Jul 2003, 19:08:27 »
I have a question of about chopper. I know that you want not make these kind of messages, but I didn't find anything fitting.

How can I make chopper to fly through the waypoints. Not to stop in there and THEN fly to another waypoint. Thanks for everything already.

and thanks those who have helped me out, my Everon - Resistance campaing is doing fine.

You can't.  At least I'm not aware of any way.   :P

There is a "countdown" field when you place waypoints (i think thats what its called). This field is the number of seconds the unit will wait at that waypoint before continuing on to the next one. This should be what you are looking for.

Be aware however that while a ground unit will move to the exact location of his waypoint before moving to his next one (pretty much), an air unit only has to be a hundred meters or so from its waypoint for it to be considered "completed", so the helo might not go exactly where you want it to go.

You can use markers and doMove commands instead of waypoints.     When the chopper gets within 100m of a marker give it the domove command to go to the next marker.

Instead of using markers, use triggers (it'll make your life easier). Place a trigger with a radius of maybe 10-20, "group" it with the helo, and set it to "unit present". Name it something like "wp1", and put "this domove getpos wp1" in the init field of the helo.

Next, in the activation field of your trigger, put "helo domove getpos wp2". Then, make a similar trigger, name it "wp2", and so on.

I did this in my Platoon Commander mission so that I could have the convoy moving down the road normally, and then make them go to a search and destroy waypoint wherever along the road the player happens to attack. Its kinda like using a switch trigger, only a little more versatile.

Hey General Barron, you should consider submitting a small sample mission to this site to demo how that works.
