Editing sound files

I would like to edit the gun shot sounds out there and then contribute them to users.Example: I'd like to add reverb to the gun shots becaouse really,where have you ever shot a round in the city or near hills and there wasnt any reverberation?Is there a tutorial out there that explains "step by step" how to do it?Cause really dont want to start opening up pbo and sound files and scatter them all over the place.I am new to this.Thank you
