Do AI controlled helos fly at night?
« on: 25 Jun 2003, 09:04:18 »
Subject says it all- I remember reading once that AI controlled helicopters don't fly well, if at all, at night. I have a mission in which a MI-17 is supposed to drop off some reinforcements, but it won't land at the invisible H; it just flies on to its next waypoint.
Is it possible to force a helo to fly at night?

(BTW I have searched on this topic and come up with zip.)

I've never noticed a problem with that.  Helis do fly at night as you will see in many missions.  Chances are there is something else wrong, like a waypoint synchronization issue maybe.

*Update*

OK, I just tested it with no problems.  Make sure the heli's "transport unload" waypoint is sync'ed to the soldiers "unload" waypoint.

Good question actually well I have a mission like that to but I have it dropping off the player in a UH-60.  I'm not sure but it might be the problem with what his Behaviuor is.  Is it set to (safe, aware, combat, and so on...).  If you set it to safe the lights are on correct.  Check and see if it lands on safe if it does try others if they or none of them work then I will give you the answer to a question relatively close to this one that I posted myself today.

I haven't had a chance to try any of this out yet, but I'm thinking that it may actually be a synch problem. I will let you know how I go. Thanks for the replies!

I've never had this problem?
Helicopter flies about the same to me day or night, no matter the behaviour.
I also don't understand why you need an unload waypoint for the squad in the chopper. I have never used this, transport unload has always dropped off the squad fine, and they go to whatever waypoint assined, I don't think you even need to use the Unload waypoint unless your dropping off a couple different squads at different places.
That's just been my experience anyway.

Worked it out...just a matter of improperly synched waypoints. It's very scary having two great big MI-17's chock full of troops fly right over your head when the alarm goes off!
